Art 1 Final Portfolio

1. The clay tiles were my favorite. I loved getting to work with my hands and i really like how my project turned out.  I learned alot about mixing paint and how to use highlights to make my art work come to life. Think that the antlers turned out the best. I like the antlers because they have really good lines and form. They also have great contrast from the rest of the deer and the background. Overall i think that this was my most successful project. My piece was successful because i used plenty of contrast and i had great paint colors. I do wish that i could have done a better job making the eyes though.

2. I probably learned the most from the landscape painting. It wasn't my best piece but i enjoyed painting on the canvas and getting to mix my paints. I learned alot because this was my first time actually painting and i wasn't sure how to start. Once i did get going it was smooth sailing for the rest of the project. I learned how to create better color and how to get it to stand out more. I also learned alot about using texture and how to make it. During the course of this project i developed alot. I developed skills for mixing paint and getting the right color, for making shadows and using different shades of a color to give my painting depth, and i developed skills for being able to paint neater. I think my sky turned out really good along with the mountains. My dog and rocks didn't go quite as well.
3. I used many skills and techniques that i learned from previous projects. I used skills i learned from the value portraits to draw the shapes and the shading. While drawing my deer i had to use perspective to get the antlers right. Because of the perspective my deer doesn't look flat. I grew a lot through this project and my other pieces. Not only did my skills grow but i also gained a better understanding of art. I learned how to make things look further away, i learned how to draw by looking at a picture, and i learned how to use details to make my drawings look more like the real thing. I like this project because i have always like drawing and this helped me get better at it.

4. I think the game drawings were the least important. Even though we learned how to use water color i didn't really learn anything else. I also just didn't enjoy the project. I don't think that the project was important because everything that we did we already knew how to do. Also i don't think board games were the best choice. I don't think board games were good because they were really difficult to raw and get a good perspective on. It would have been a lot better if we had drawn nature scenes or every day items that aren't so spread out and easier to draw. I also didn't see how we were supposed to get very much value and contrast in the pictures.

5. This piece was the most important to me. It is important to me because it reminds me of my childhood. My dad had a 1959 Chevrolet that he got just for me and him to work on. We spent a lot of time together working on it and cleaning it up and we had many good times together doing it. In the truck i put my dads favorite colors to remind me of him. This means a lot to me because it was also the first truck i ever drove. I drove it for the first time sitting in his lap when i was five and as i grew i got to work more and more on it with him. We still do a lot of work together but this project will always meant the most because it was out first father son project together.
